Is it possible to embed a watermark in your graphics on the website to prevent others from using it without permission, then how can it be done?

as long as it's available on the internet its available to be 'grabbed' by others. watermarks are good deterents for some. 'ais watermarker' is a good program for single or batch watermarking. this program, and plenty others like it, allow you to add either text or an image as a watermark in various positions on the original image.

photoimpact has a program and function inside the program that will allow you to mark your images as well. ive never used it but you may want to check it out.

also, there are programs that can embed text, etc. into your images that are not readable by humans. if someone grabs your image you can test to see if your text or marks are inside the image.

keywords for searching: watermark, embed, protect, copyright

There is a program and service called digimarc. They claim once you watermark your content, they have a spider that goes out and tracks anyone using your content. I had it for a while but never really implemented. Might be worth a look.

Do you need the watermark applied on the fly?

If not, just add the watermark in Photoshop to a duplicate of your image.

Create your watermark using ©, or whatever, in a new layer. Play with the transparency until you have it just right and flatten the image.

Then upload the new watermarked image.

@ Rather_be_Skiing,
Yes, but there's a fee you have to pay if you want to use their service. Otherwise the watermark will only refer to their demo page.
Photoshop for example have the possibility to add a DigiMarc.

I found other similar possibilities like: Signafy (NEC), Caronni, SigNum Tech (SureSign).. But many of them requires some kind of registration.

So I'll probably use utica´s solution, creating an personal almost invisible sign.

I would definitely save the process you went through as a command if you take this hand made approach. This way you will be able to quickly apply the one command and save as instead of having to: open a new layer, add water mark, correct transparency of watermark, tweak etc. etc.

You may even be able to run a batch process using your saved command to do a heap of images in one go.
