I recently started advertising on google but unfortunately I have not been able to get returns on my investment, I spent about 10 dollars today getting about 10 clicks but still got no commissions from commission junction. I am wondering why I got nothing out of it, Yesterday I got my first click after a raising my maxCPC, i did get one click but no commission but that was ok as it was just one visitor, Today though, is a difference case. Can anyone advise?

Its almost impossible to say what an "average" conversion rate would be, but 1 in 10 would be fantastic, and very rare. Some products will be 1 in 50, some 1 in 200. So you will need to buy much more traffic to know what your average conversion rate is. Statistically 10 clicks is not enough to tell you anything at all Im afraid.

Thank for that information I am still watching to see what happens, how much do you normally spend on advertising in a day, anybody?

Some people will be spending $10, some $1000's a day, Im not sure it really means anything.

If you are promoting something as an affiliate you need to assume you will only get 1% conversion rate, and from that work out how much you can spend per click to still make a profit.

To use adwords purely for affiliate commissions you will need to be prepared to spend to find out what products are profitable, most you try will not make money.

What the heck, I'll spill the beans.

I spend about $130.00 a day on average and double that money, hence $130.00 profit daily over the long term (not counting the holiday season).

If I've invested $15.00 in clicks in a new product without seeing a profit, it's gone.

First 2 months in AdWords, I lost money. Finally got the hang of it :)

comission junction.....heh....some advice from me to you, be VERY careful on what you advertise, and be very diligent in your tracking, and be prepared to pull the plug on sites that dont convert.

i dont like comission junction at all, making money there is very difficult. there are better ways to exploit google adwords to make money than that.

just my 2 cents.

patient2all,

Are you an affiliate or promoting your own products? Just curious whether $130 a day is possible on affiliates margin ....

Sure these margins can be made with affiliate programs. Many people here make a lot more than that on PPC stuff.

I wonder if it would cost less to just run an affiliate program (let some one else sell my product) then to spend my time running my google campaigns.

I have just stopped my adword campaign as it appears I could never even make money out of it. My question is how do you guys make money off PPC campaigns? It might seem as though I want your secrets but I just would like to know, if you don't mind
