I've been looking through the new index and noticed a lot of links from shopping sites, the ones where you compare prices. They're all using google's adwords, and when google has spidered their site mine was lucky enough to be listed under "alternate resources". The pages generally have a PR of around 2 to 4, but some 20+ links there :D Good anchor text too :)

Using adwords gets you more PR :D

You lost me dude.

what "alternate resources" are you referring to.

and from past experience, Google Adwords does NOT help PR, if it did, ceratin members round here would be PR20 based on their £50,000 spend a month :)

(unless you are referring to your natural listings on comparison sites, and google picking them up as a backlink)

I'll clarify;

  • Google adwords are on other sites than google.
  • They are on a few shopping sites under "alternate resources".
  • Google spidered these pages and picked up the links as backlinks.
  • The pages that are being linked from have PR

    So, you are saying if your adword ad is displayed on someone elses site when they are crawled, it will look like a kink to you?

    Don't think so.... look at the link:

    [pagead.gogle.com?url=yoursite.com...]

    I am sure GG would filter that!

    I dont think we'll ever find out, as the pages are usually < PR4 so they wont show up in backlinks :/

    This is entirely correct.

    Google is apparently having difficulty identifying their own Adwords off partner sites that are crawled by Googlebot.
