AdWords API

Any suggestions?

I'm interested in learning how to use the AdWords API.
I don't really know much about programming, but will be taking some courses to learn as much as I can.
I don't plan on learning everything overnight.
Does anyone here have any suggestions or hints on how to go about this? Which language should I learn (Java, Perl, .NET, PHP, or XML)? If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

If you are new to programming, I would suggest PHP as I found it easy to pick up and also most web hosts support it. But then, when it comes to programming languages, everyone seems to be highly opinionated including myself.

I'm a PHP nut, however the various needs of the Google API do not make it easy to use PHP for developing your programs. (For example, you need PHP, cUrl AND OpenSSL installed and functioning before you can get crazy with PHP access to the API ... and that's just setting up your programming environment!)

IMHO, start with PERL, which seems to be the most well-supported of the language choices they include. Plus, you'll be in good shape for generic server programming, as every server is set up for PERL, these days, while the others may or may not be available to you.

AFAIK, although their might be some third party tools to provide support, the .NETs will only run on Windows Servers.
