Anybody notice a big drop off in impressions (including content) from yesterday to today? In one campaign I had about 39,000 yesterday and I'm only at about 9,000 today. I don't think its reporting lag.

Topper99, the most common reason for this is that the advertiser has edited the ad(s) - which means that they'll have to be reviewed/approved before running on the search and/or content network.

This can often account for a big drop in impressions, since the ads are showing in far fewer places.

Could that be it? I certainly haven't heard of this as a trend for the day.

I currently run 6 ad campaigns in the same account, and have noticed that one of them has shown a consistent downtick in impressions over the past 2 weeks - from 45k per day 2 weeks ago to less than 100 now. I changed geographical settings from Worldwide to UK & Ireland at around that time, and would have expected the impression count to fall, but not so severely and not on a consistent basis for 2 weeks.
I would expect most of the impressions for this campaign to come from companies rather than individuals. Is it possible that IP addresses for companies are not being registered as UK users?

I wonder if the google dancing is having any impact on AdWords.

In theory, if relevancy has improved in the main listings, then AdWords in general will suffer.

That wouldn't necessarily impact on impressions. CTR yes.

dmjarvis, I have seen in the UK and Ireland that Content Network ads are updated very slowly, it takes about a week from what I can tell. It may be the case that a few sites a day saw your geographic targeting and eliminated you from their search, and you may have increased your ranking for websites that are geographically targeted.

My $0.02, hope it helps.

Thanks Elizabeth. That seems like the most probable cause.

topper, did you ever figure out what happened to your account?

Elizabeth, the impressions kept dropping (below 10,000) so I just turned off content for now because the results weren't great anyway. I never did figure out how it could go from 70,000 impressions to less than 10,000 in less than a week.

Thanks for asking!
