in my campaign one of my adwords is set to check for the words 'mobile development' and targeted for the UK

in the last 24 hour period i have had only 5 page impressions.

I am nowhere near my daily budget so does that mean that in that period only 5 people in the UK typed those words into google or is that too simplistic a view?

Thanks

No, that sounds about accurate. An invaluable tool I use to gauge the relative popularity of keywords and how people phrase their searches is something called Good Keywords.

Actually there are a bunch of tools like this out there, this one is completely free though. Search on it.

All they are doing is shelling the publicly available Overture results for the preceding month. No, it's not AdWords, but it gives you an idea of what is searched.

Last month, there were 7 Overture searches for 'mobile development' (but a lot more for variants) in Overture UK. The US got a few more with 98 for the month! In fact at Overture itself, you can 'test' phrases without joining up, but these free tools are faster and easier to use, I find.

Check it out, you'll learn a lot about what people actually search on.
