I am looking for the best books or guides on AdWords. I understand the basics of the platform, but never managed a campaign by myself. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

There are none. In general, developments in internet technologies are so fast, that once a book has been written, printed and published, the contents is already outdated. Your question itself is outdated, because AdWords has been re-branded to Google Ads in July 2018.

A good starting point are the Google Ads support pages [support.google.com].
