If you ask a more specific question, I think more people will reply.

There are advantages and disadvantages, but which matter most is a case by case basis.

Hello,

It depends of your own skill, time and resources. Did you try by yourself first?

Not enough info ... are your current ad strategies at a standstill and you are looking for a boost above?

Just keep in mind that agencies expect to be paid ... and that comes out of your bottom line, so the secondary question is: Can you afford it?

True, agency costs comes out of your bottom line.

But also true that the agency should do at least these two things: (1) improve your advertising to grow your bottom line by more than the cost of hiring an agency, AND, (2) reduce your time and money spent when you did the PPC tasks without the agency..

Heh! I've yet to met such agency that wasn't more trouble than worth, or wasn't LESS effective than "advertised".

YMMV

I work at an agency, so I'm biased for sure.
I do often review accounts, to try and win new business... and these accounts are very often managed by agencies I compete with, and I've seen some super stanky accounts.
Choosing the right agency is easier said than done.
I'd say the same is true of hiring an in-house PPC Manager, and maybe even more risky (when hiring internally, you've got no room to get it wrong, while an agency will have multiple people so the chances of them all stinking is probably lower than your solo hiring decision going bad).
