Can someone tell me if its true that you've run a google adwords campaign with a specific URL for a long time, click-thru rate is ok (say between 1-5%), will googlebot index this adword URL and make it part of the regular search results? Or is there no basis to believe this to be the case?

My understanding is that adwords are in no way related to the main google index and will not affect your ranking in any way.

I do believe that when you start an ad word campaign your url is automatically added to the list of sites to spider, just like if you would have added it on their "Add Url" page. However, there is no reason to believe that you will receive any preferential treatment in the rankings because you are running an ad word campaign.
