Adgroup bid vs placement bid on GDN

If my adgroup bid is $1, and I never set specific bids for placements but AdWords Editor just inserted them there when I initially set my adgroup bids, how come they don't change when I change the adgroup bids?

Also, why are these placement specific bids there at all? I just want to control this at the adgroup level...

Better have one campaign for Search and one for Display (placement). Seperate it on the campaign level. Mixing Search and Display in one campaign does not give you the full control over what is happening.

The campaigns are display only. What makes you think otherwise?

You have to adapt to the way it works. Oftentimes there are options that you don't need, or limitations on what you can do that you have to try to work around.

For example, I don't want my ads to show on mobile devices, But Adwords makes it hard to opt out.

I get that it's their game and I need to adapt... but I don't understand where these numbers come from. Also a random number seemingly out of nowhere at 0.30 cpm (when my cpc bid was 0.5) ... it's just odd.
