Phone Clicks on AdWords vs Call Tracking

Hello,

We see a huge difference in the amount of phone clicks in AdWords compared to actual phone calls going through with our call tracking (could be like 25 vs 1). Wondering if anyone has seen any articles on this or the social science behind why this is happening? Are people hovering over the phone number and saving it? Is it just how it is? Are there ways of improving this?

When I click on a mobile ad it asks me if I want to make a call. Google might be counting that instead of the actual call. I have not tested this. It is just a guess.

Also does your software count short phone calls?

Well, if you're just adding your phone number in the extensions then the data will only show you results of the ad that included your phone number, not activity ON your phone number. It helps to give advertisers an idea on how adding a phone number helps overall.
