I am seeing yellow word Ad now Serps

I am seeing for the 1st time a yellow image with the word Ad in the top spots in the serps were the Google ads are. Then over the right site a single yellow image Ads. The background color that was a shade off white is now white.
When did this start?

I am also seeing Yellow "AD" words for all ads and conversion is all of a sudden tanked. I imagine its now better to be in positions 5 or 6 than position one, since there is no individualized "AD" word next to those ads
