I am not sure if its a right place to post such a questions, it is rather theoretical. I hope you all know the theory which distinguish the function of Electronic Commerce as a channel of distribution and function of EC as a marketplace. While electronic marketplace offers some kind of a marketplace infrastructure - its a place to face buyers to sellers (mechanisms of safe trading, price comparison, market researches) and is represented in online world for example by eBay, channel of dictribution offers limited fuctionality and may be presented by for example Google adwords (which do not offer a marketplace fuctionality as eBay). This theory uses such a distingtion to explain difference in buyers attitude (a strong urge to purchase the given item in case of ch. of distribution against weak and undefined intention to purchase in case of a marketplace) and the difference of goods sold over the marketplace and ch. of distribution. For example authors of this theory suggest that one can use ch. of dictribution (adwords) to sell books, movies, CDs, e-goods - items that do not have to be touched and seen before the purchase (they are the same as seen on a wallmart shelf). While a marketplace environment (eBay) converts weak purchase intention to a strong urge to buy, because buyres see another buyers, may talk to other buyers, compare the prices, check sellers feedback and use other marketplace infrastructure functionality. Thats the theory.
Our ebay expertise shows that ebay is good to sell almost any kinds of goods (exscept those, extremely "non-standart" (value couldnt be estimated by comparing to analogs)). Is there any trend in types of goods sold over the PPC (and adwords as one of the leading engine)? If you will be so kind to post here the types of goods sold (without releasing the closed info) or types of goods that cant be sold via adwrods, I would definitely appreciate. Also we will appreciate if anyone that has an expirience of dealing both with ebay and PPC and found any differencies between both channels. Interesting is a question how SMALL ppc (adwords) sellers compensate the non-presence of eBay feedback system to proove their trustworthy and non-existence of other eBay marketplace infrastructure functions (such as obligatory insurance, fraud protection, etc..). All of your contributions would be valuable. Hope this topic would be interested to other members as well. Thank you very much for your attention.
