I set up a new client last night adwords campaign. All the keywords have a very good score 7 and up. Tested the destination url from interface correct page. Connected adwords to analytics account, installed a conversion tracker on the cart confirm page (cart is a subdomain so it is seperate from the website)

This morning looking at the traffic I see all the PPC clicks are hitting my custom 404 page. I don't allow spaces, ?= and so forth in the url for know reasons. Since I can't see the url destination from the search (unless I go in IIS disable the 404 and disable my Isapi) I called adwords support. They don't know why this is happening. I figured it was from google tracking so I deleted the connection between adwords and analytics hours ago. It is still happening so with Google support looking into the issue I figured might as well ask those that can probably help me the quickest here.

Anybody have this issue and figured out the cause?

I don't know the answer. But in what might be a related comment, I sometimes see ads listed in my AdSense "Ad Review" section that lead to a 404 page. That's even though I can see the ad in my Review panel.

I don't know why that happens, but when it does happen, I block the ad(s) no matter how well targeted it is.

http://www.example.com/catalog/browse/shooting-gun-storage/_/N-1100210?WT.z_mc_id1=00000000000&WT.srch=1&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=google|sho_keyword+keyword_general|USA&rid=20&pcrid=0000000

This is why I am getting the 404 the tracking being added to the url from Google. The above isn't my site in question but I can see if this was added to my url ending it would redirect to my 404.

I have other sites set up the same way that are fine just don't see why this is happening with this site and not the others.

Found it auto tagging was enabled. I know I opted out but double checking it was on missed an easy one.

"I don't allow spaces, ?= and so forth in the url for know reasons."

do you have destination url auto-tagging turned on? this will append data pairs (so Analytics can track), and you're disallowing them.

:-)
