Change Ads When URL Changes?

Should I create new ads with the new URL?

Scenario:

Ads running with bluewidgets.html URL link. Page name changed to mega-widgets.html with 301 redirect. Do I need to pause existing ads that have the bluewidgets.html and re-write with new mega-widgets?

Do I just leave the ads running with the old URL with the assumption there is no impact on QS as long as there is a proper 301 redirect?

In my experience, AdWords has no problem with 301 redirects as long as the domain of the landing page matches the domain of the display URL.

Quality score is hard to predict, but unless the new landing page is significantly different from the old one, your QS should not be affected much if at all.

later, when you're webmaster removes the old 301s from your htaccess file (or asapi module), you'll get hosed. chances are, it'll be black friday or cyber monday when it happens.

or maybe apache gets updated and the way regex in your redirects works, changes ever so slightly... this'll happen during your largest sale of the year.

repoint the ads.

avoiding 301 redirs also saves a very, very small time delay.
