A (Hopefully) Basic AdWords/Analytics Tracking Question

Receiving the "full" stats in Analytics.

I'm very sure this has been asked before, but it's very hard to properly search for this without coming up with a LOT of unrelated threads.

I'm not super experienced with AdWords, but I'm running campaigns for a friend's company. The Analytics currently tracks the sales made via AdWords, but not the individual campaigns/keywords. For instance, it shows that we've generated $X through AdWords campaigns, but not which campaigns, or through which keywords.

How do I link the AdWords campaigns with the Analytics stats properly? I want to see which campaigns are making sales and through what keywords, etc.

Cliffs: Analytics tracks AdWords, just not the specific campaigns.

Thanks a lot!

you've got to link the AW and GA accounts together, then link the cost data. in addition, in your AW account, enable auto tagging so GA can properly detect the PPC clicks.

when you're logged into AW, can you get to GA by going to the AW menu "Tools & Analytics / Google Analytics"? if so, the accounts are linked and your AW email is also an admin in that GA account.

in your AW account, go to "My account / preferences", and make sure auto tagging is set to yes.

in GA, go to "Edit account settings", confirm that your AW and GA accounts are linked.

similarly, in GA, your can "Edit" any profile, confirm that the "Applied Cost Data:" field shows the linked AW account.

lastly, if you just hooked them together, just applied cost data, and just turned on auto-tagging, give it a day or two - there's an initial reporting delay that's sometimes as much as 48 hours (though it seems to be improving lately).

Rhino,

Thanks for the reply. I believe AW and GA accounts are linked together. When I go to Tools & Analytics/GA from the AdWords account it tells me the following:

"Although this AdWords account is linked to an Analytics account, your AdWords login email address is not listed as a user on that Analytics account. Please contact the administrator of the Analytics account and request that they add you as a user to this Analytics account."

The Analytics account login is the same as the AdWords account though, so I'm a little confused. Both of the emails are Admin accounts, and like I said, the overall revenue and traffic from AdWords shows up in GA, just not the full information.

When I go to edit the main profile it says the following under Applied Cost Data:

Applied Cost Data:Cost source from Adwords for user 885-XX-3XX8

Although that's not the same user # my AdWords account says. Is that the problem?

yep, that's the prob. your GA account is linked to another AW account. it can only be linked to one. i've seen this many times before, you guys probably have an old AW account that was abandoned, but it's still hooked to your GA.

G makes you abandon your AW account to switch from pre-pay to autopay (formerly post-pay). bet you guys grabbed a new AW account, and never unhooked the GA from it.

How do I unlink my Analytics and AdWords accounts?
[google.com...]

once the old AW account is unlinked, try to go to GA from within AW... if you are indeed an admin in AW and the proper GA, it'll prompt you to link them.
