Today, I noticed that ads for specific company names are not showing. For example if you are searching for the world's largest retailer there is only one ad. Try it with other names, the same thing. Is this new? Tom
I am not speaking of affilates. It seems as if you can not use any ad that is using another companys name if you are not directly associated with that company.(Sort to like GEICO suit?) Look at words like "holiday inn", "Walmart", etc. In the past you would see a ton of ads, not just affiliates.

^Those threads are about affiliates. The subtitle of this thread indicates the OP is unable to use competitor names, and I am not seeing that. My ads still show up. Google doesn't allow you to use someone else's trademarks if they complain, but if they don't complain, the ads show up. I am not seeing any change.

I swear I am not crazy :). If you look at proper names like walmart, hilton hotels, general motors, etc. you will only see a very few ads, if any. In the past you would see many (and they weren't all affiliates).

I am still seeing my competitor's ad when I search for my my domain, which is my company name and my trademark. This name is so unique that nobody would type that name in addressbar and search for it.. don't know what is my competitor getting by advertising on my domain name, (Except few clicks every day from me :)

I don't think you're crazy. I'm just saying I don't see this happening in the areas I work with. For instance, you mentioned GEICO. That term still brings up a competitor. Similarly, searches for stock brokerage names bring up ads for other discount brokerages.

Look for example at hilton hotels, in the past you would see many travel sites. Now, all you see is the hilton hotels company ad. Also, for example check lands end. used to see many shopping sites
