Severe Drop in Positioning

I am working with a new client. They've had an account running for over a year now and been pretty successful with it. But starting in February they've seen a big drop in positioning although their CPC has remained constant. They say they haven't changed much - just minor tweaking. Any thoughts on what could cause this?

New competitors entering the market (or old ones entering a bidding war) is one potential cause, or alternatively there's been a change to the way their QS is calculated (this one is harder to track down).

there could be many causes...

first step, segment the traffic and see if that leads you to a smaller subset.

It's all part of the Google 'moving 'target' philosophy. Just when you think you have Google figured out, and you are generating consistent, profitable traffic, Google changes the game. God forbid you should spent time on your business instead of spending time playing the Google moving target game…
