What do you know about becoming a "Qualified Google Advertising Professional"? I am just starting out in this business and it sounds like that would be a good place for me to start. I plan to study in this area anyway, so I might as well take the exam and get the cert.

I checked out [adwords.google.com...] and it says to qualify you need to "Manage at least one AdWords account (yours or someone else's) in My Client Center for 90 days" and "Build and maintain at least US$1,000 total spend for your or your team's My Client Center account during the 90-day period."

What does that mean? Does that mean that I have to have worked for a company that spent $1000 with Google or I can't get certified? Or does "total spend for your or your team's My Client Center account" mean something else?

that's what it means. You've got to pass the test and spend some money.

Sorry if that isn't clear, Reinvented. And welcome to WebmasterWorld!

No, this doesn't mean that you must have worked for a company who manages AdWords. It can be just you. It really boils down to this:

* You, personally, will need to have at least 90 days 'hands on' experience managing an AdWords account or accounts using the 'My Client Center'.

* The account(s) in the 'My Client Center' may be your own, or you may manage an account, or accounts, for others.

* The total spend for the account(s) in the 'My Client Center', over a three month period, must be at or above $1000.00 - equivalent to an overall daily budget of roughly $12.00 or so.

Hope that clears it up. ;) If not, the links provided by eWhisper will take you to all the info you'll need.

Hmmmm, what a shame, I would like to complete the "Qualified Google Advertising Professional" course and add that to my 'portfolio', but there is no way I will get to the sums needed to apply!
I am running an adwords campaign, but in my area you are talking about 3€ a day max to cover all angles.
I feel somewhat left out........ :(

Tbear, I'm sorry to hear that!

Please be aware that you can complete the training modules in the Learning Center that eWhisper linked to in msg. #3 at no cost. It is a pretty good AdWords overview, and the price is right.

As my dad used to say: "The more you know, well, the more you know!"

Chances are if you do the learning, you will find many more opportunities so you might find $1000 perfectly achievable.

Unfortunately some people are limited by internal budgets...

I notice that in the UK, the requirement is a spend of £1000, or US$1930. Whilst it's not a lot of money in the greater marketing scheme of things, it does, unfortunately, exclude me. I do firmly believe that the 'accreditation' is a very good idea indeed. Had it been the equivalent of US$1000 in the UK too, I might have been able to 'earn my wings'..;-)

Well, you got me there. I clearly forgot to add the requisite "...or equivalent in your currency" disclaimer. ;)

Got me again!

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

HitProf, I actually lead a double life - and have posted on another Forum for the past few months as AdWordsRep. I'll tell you though, I post on that Forum a lot more often as AWA, than the reverse!

AdWordsAdvisor,

Thanks for clearing that up. I now understand the $1000 requirement. But what is the rationale for that policy?

It seems to me that Google would want people to be qualified BEFORE they start managing their clients' advertising dollars.

It's great that Google provides Web-based training, but clearly more people will use the training if they are able to use it to get a cert. Why would Google discourage people from going through their program and learning Adwords?

Since when does taking a course make you a professional in whatever?
