A question about broad bidding on Adwords. I have searched for an answer but couldn't find one.

I want to bid for a broad match of a keyword, so for all phrases with the keyword in it, but at the same time I don't want to bid for the exact keyword.

For example: I want to bid for 'blue widgets', 'red widgets', 'tall widgets', 'nice widgets', 'very nice widgets', but I don't want to bid for 'widgets'.

Is this possible in Adwords?

I am sure someone with a clue will be along but in the meantime have you tried entering all the other keyphrase pairs as broad match and then adding the widget itself as a negative.

I believe that you can use broadmatch for keyword widgets and then use exact match in the negative keywords for [widget] [widgets]
should get you what I think you're looking for.
