Yesterday, April Fool's Day, Google started crediting money to my Adwords account. I was expecting to be billed yesterday, but every time I logged in, I owed them less money. Now as of this morning, they owe me money so my ads are essentially showing for free right now. My cost per click today has also dropped so I'm wondering if they think they've been overcharging me for the last several months? I've never seen this before. It is nice to have the credit, but it also worries me a bit.

They will likely catch it at some point if it's an error. I would email someone over there to take a look so you don't all of a sudden have to make a huge payment.

I have had refunds, presumably from identification of invalid clicks, but not ot the extent mentioned.

It apparently goes back to 2003. Since I can't see what the old numbers were, it is hard to tell completely what happened, but every time I was billed for the $500 odd dollars, I actually only owed $300 or $400. The charges are still intact but now each one creates a credit until we get to today when I have a large credit. I still don't know why I didn't actually owe the $500 each billing.

We don't have VAT in the U.S., but it is coming, so maybe the extra charges were Google's way of getting a head start! Glad they came to their senses.
