Why is it good for a financial company to buy ads for fund ticker symbols

Hi all,

just had a question about buying ads for a financial company that have to deal with tickers for some of their funds. Are there any minuses? Does it help protect the Branded term from getting swooped up by a competitor? Is it too microscopic?

Thanks for your input!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, SEMakesmewonder!

I'd say a search for a specific fund ticker identifies a pretty select investor audience. Why wouldn't a financial company want to reach them? Sure, there's a possibility of the searcher already owning the fund and simply checking it's quote... but, depending on the bid, it could very well still be worth it... and then the searcher is probably less likely to click on an ad promoting another brokerage anyway.
