No ads on page 1 but ads on page 2 - huh?

OK so they do a lot of testing. And sometimes they test strange things.

Logged into Adwords I do a search in a new tab on google.com.au

I see no ads at all on the first pages of results - and a full compliment of ads on page 2.

Struggling to understand the logic here - any suggestions?

Could be personalized results.

Lately I only use Google AdWords Ad Preview Tool in secondary browser without being logged on.

Possibly personalised results - still a bit odd I think. What does bid to first page mean in this context?

Google has become complicated over the time. Most of the stuff is relative today. Could be, but it does not have to.

Not that I'm saying it's not good. It's just that I believe it's not like one thing in your hand, but rather something like a universe that surrounds you. Bunch of stuff at the same time, and each single thing influences the end result in its own way.
