I got a letter in the mail From Google to try out Adwords.

It has a promotional code and is for 100$ of free advertising on Adwords..
The fine print says " Advertisers with self-managed sign-up accounts are subject to a 5$ activation fee that will be deducted from the promotional credit"

Will guess what...When you go and sign up ..That is not the case..It then says you must give them a credit card to charge for this..

Everything is a scam!

No, it's not a scam. It's quite clear in the terms and conditions.
Everyone that signs up for a Google AdWords program, even without the voucher, has to pay the activation fee.

Give me the coupon if you don't want it.

I hate that first post sounded negative..

I Did read the Terms and Conditions!

It says..." Self-managed accounts are subject to a 5$ activation fee that will be deducted from the promotional credit"...

Its just idea that tell you one thing in the letter and then when you sign up its different..

Since they need a credit card to charge..IT IS NOT BEING DEDUCTED FROM THE 100$ PROMOTIONAL CREDIT.

Funny, google is banning advertisers if Google thinks they practice the following:

[..]

Unfortunately, some online advertisers continue to promote services and websites that do not help, and in some cases could harm, our users. For instance, these advertisers may offer free services that bait users into accepting hidden fees.

But the voucher promises that the $5 fee will be deducted from the $100 promotional credit. samntex claims that he has to pay this via his creditcard. (I don't know if this true).

You will need to enter your credit card info to start your AdWords account, but if you have $100 in credit from the promotional flyer and do not spend more than $100 in your account, your credit card will not be charged.

LOL

Your coupon is not being shown. Place a bid of at least $5 to start using your coupon or improve the quality of your coupon.

OK -- I got the coupon, too, and signed up. It appears during sign up as if the $5 will be charged to a credit card or be taken from a debit account, but in fact the $5 is deducted from the coupon in the billing summary.
