i know this is dumb sounding, but can i set up a conversion if someone clicks a hyperlink to another domain on my site...?

i.e.

>user clicks google ad
>user is taken to my landing page on my site
>they click a link to register for our seminar

i want to count that click of the link as a conversion.

or DO I have to have the google conversion tracking put on their page?

You can count anything as a "conversion". But why count when they click to the link to register? I think you'd want to count when they actually have completed the registration. I could go to a registration page but not fill it.

I'm not sure about AdWords Conversion Tracking in this scenario, but I know you can accomplish it with Google Analytics Goals.

You would assign a "fake" page view to an "onclick" event for the link you want to track.

I'm not sure if you can use AdWords conversion with "onclick"... Otherwise, I believe you'd need to place the Adwords Conversion on the other domain.

would the users cookie from my AD follow them to the new domain?

Yes, I believe so. I don't think the conversion code cares where (what domain) it is placed as long as the Adwords account matches the info stored in the cookie.

Not 100%, but pretty sure... If you own multiple domains you could always setup a quick test on sites you control before implementing for real.
