Hi. I am looking at increasing sales in my area and I was curious how well Adwords would work. Currently I get 8 visits a day on my web design site (I really haven't got much in SEO because my site is a side job from my full time job)

I was curious if this would help my business though. Problem is though, I am from Canada. So should I only target my area or should I target all of North America?

Also how much money should I pump out into Adwords? Should I start slow or pay the $2 per click for a search word.

Thanks :)

It depends on what you do. If you are a handyman you would want to target only local customers within a certain radius.

If you sell items online, and only ship to canada, target all of canada.

How much to pay? Thats a loaded question. I would test it out a bit with a low daily spend and see how much business you gain from Adwords compared to how much you spent (ROI).

Everyones business is different, so everyones advertising is different. But, I would guess Adwords could be made to work for just about any business. Given enough time and experimentation.

Thanks for the reply :)

Well my business is Web Design, so I could target the US as well as Canada. Would $30/month be good enough to test or would I have to spend more than that?

I replied on another thread of yours (I'm not following you around, honestly! :)): basically, web design is a service rather than a product, and the business more or less requires face to face contact and building a strong customer relationship. Even the big web design companies usually have most of their clients based in the immediate geographical area. This is easiest when you live in a large urban center like Montreal or Toronto, but if you live in a smaller city it is doable too.

I would avoid too much expenditure on Adwords unless you can get very targetted traffic: eg. "web design Mytown". Rather I would work hardest on searching out more local opportunities.
