I've been using the Ad Preview Tool [adwords.google.com...]

to check the ranking of my various Ads. I've noticed that I get rank x when I test my keywords. Although when I review my campaigns I notice that the Avg. Pos is y (which is considerably lower than what is shown in the preview tool. Furthermore, when I test the keyword in google (www.google.com) I can't see the ad displayed at all. Is the preview tool completely unreliable? Should I ignore this tool?

Are you making sure to measure with the correct match type?

Is your local area the same as your target settings?

Does your ip actually come from within that area?

We have clients in one state but their internet is served from a different state, therefore Google doesn't serve them ads unless using the search query parsing with the location generally in the campaign and user query.

Hey briggidere, the location settings in the Ad Preview tool are set for the correct country and region. The IP comes from the same country and region. I'm not using state filtering, I'm just selecting a particular country.

The only thing I can think of is that google cookies might have something to do with this issue...
