Question about (not) showing

I have several keywords and 12 exclusions in a group and several (a lot) campaign exclusions as well.

Now my ad doesn't show up for almost any combination plus keyword.
Ditto for most competitors. There is only 1 (one) ad showing for most combinations with a keyword from this group.

Something similar happens in some other groups, but some other groups are fine. It's not a budget matter.

What could be wrong? Too many exclusions? How many is OK then?

HitProf, due to the limited details which one may post here, this question is just about impossible to answer with any sort of certainty.

I think you'd get a much more solid answer by contacting AdWords support using the 'Contact Us' link from within your account.

One thing that immediately came to mind though: have you made certain that your campaign level negatives are not preventing some of your keywords from showing?

Too many exclusions? How many is OK then?

I don't think this will be the problem - and least not in terms of simple numbers. I'm not aware of a limit to the number of negative keywords which one may use.

I'd try to help if I understood the question.

Thanks for you reply AWA.

I've tried many searches and I'm sure it has nothing to do with the excluded words. I'll contact the support team after the weekend.

Hi BillyS,

I want to know why the ads are not showing. I thought it could be because of the number of exclusions but AWA doens't seem to think that should be the cause. So any other thoughts are helpful.

On a few occasions I've seen people copy and paste their 'usual' negatives into an account. Sometimes, these contain the words they are actually advertising for.

Have you checked your negatives to make sure you don't have a global negative that conflicts with your keywords?
