They seem to beat Microsoft on this one :)

I was more looking for a discussion on the effects of this extra feature on Adwords.

Will this either bring clicks down because users are tempted to look at their own machines first or go up because more users are going to use Google for everything local as well (and see the adword ads)?

Google didn't beat Microsoft, Bill Gates already has Lookout.

It shows no ads on my system for local searches, that's a bummer :(
