Aggressive marketing from Adwords "agents"

Just in the last two days

Suddenly I am being solicited by people claiming that they can get my company name to #1 in Google, "24/7" to quote one overenthusiastic salesperson. Another person called today to tell me almost the same thing, that they could change my ranking to #1....

The only problem is that we already are #1 for our company name, and rank quite well for other keywords that we care about. So these sales persons are not even bothering to see how we rank, and using hard sell, cold calling tactics to try and get my money.

The other interesting bit is that I have been advertising with Adwords for 4 years, and no one had ever bothered to call before. Is there a new list that is being sold or distributed around? If so, can I get off of it? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

the person told my staff member who answered the phone that they were from Google so that the call would get put through to me. When I questioned the person, they said they were "authorized resellers" for Google and could get me to be #1 "24/7" for my company name. #1 all the time for a low fee... I told them I was busy and to send me an email - which has yet to come.

That can be anyone but Google.

Unfortunately, yes. They sound similar to the scammers referenced in this thread.

They weren't very sophisticated. One of them tried to convince me that we had no titles on our pages. She claimed "I am on your site right now, and you have the title "Mozilla Firefox". You ranking would improve if you put the company name there" - except of course that the company name is there...

What is strange to me is that there was nothing for this type of hard sell for 4 years, then one day after another.

and yes, poster_boy, one of the pitches sounded a lot like the scam in the thread you listed.
