We have been hit by recent Google slap, like many others. Though, we were able to restore most of AdGroups after the slap, besides a pair of very weird AdGroups.

During the initial QS review (when the new AdGroup, with new domain name is created) the QS are Great/OK and the min CPC are fine, after a few days these AdGroups are hit by massive minCPC increase and QS goes to Poor/OK.

Searching for more ideas of landing page improving for these AdGroups, I have found the advice of using the Google Keyword Tool to test the landing page relevancy (using the Website content option).

1st AdGroup: The main keyword is widget, during the landing page test using the Keyword Tool this word is never shown as relevance keyword (only a few variations like widgeted, widdget, widge - you got an idea), but some totally unrelated keywords are shown as relevant.

Okay, what if my landing page is bad, I have started to test the other pages from the top of SERPs for this keyword. The results are the same - the top sites from the SERPS return mostly different keywords as relevant and there is no any exact widget word. ( this is not low level traffic word and it's quite popular).

Furthermore, when I enter this widget keyword into the "Descriptive words or phrases" tab inside the Google Keyword Tool, I still get different keywords and no any sign of widget.

2nd AdGroup:
In the second group there is similar behavior for Keyword Tool, instead of widget (this widget is totally different than the widget from the 1st adgroup), it returns widgeted, wid get (this is alternate spelling for the widget indeed, but people mostly search for the widget as a whole word) and some related keywords, but all of them don't include the widget.

Using the "Descriptive words or phrases" tab, I still get no any keywords from google which include the widget word.

As an alternate test, I have entered some other widget word from the AdGroup, which is active now and hasn't been slapped, and Keyword Tool returns many keywords variations, which include the widget (as expected behavior).

The theory: Some google issue with some keywords may cause the Adgroups based on these keywords go inactive for the landing pages, where the Google Keyword Tool is unable to find the main keyword.

This is just a theory, of course, and the real cause may be unrelated to the Keyword Tool issues (even if these exist), but I want to ask you - What is your experience?

Good day and welcome to Webmasterworld,
found you post to be interesting, but was unable to reproduce your result.
Can you give us a step by step of
"1st AdGroup: The main keyword is widget, during the landing page test using the Keyword Tool this word is never shown as relevance keyword (only a few variations like widgeted, widdget, widge - you got an idea), but some totally unrelated keywords are shown as relevant. "
When i go to adwords> Keyword Tool> i see nothing that lets me test
my landing page against a set of keywords of my choosing.

Thank you

ildarius, You can use the External Keyword Tool or either the internal Keyword Tool from your Adwords Account.

Watch "How would you like to generate keyword ideas?" and there are two tabs, choose "Website content" and then enter the URL of your landing page to test. You will get the list of relevant (according the tool) keywords.

Nice! Tested and it's true, the keyword tool seems to be completely off for some keywords.

Can anyone actually confirm if the results affect the quality score?

Thanx
