I respect advertisers who advertise on Google search

More than some might think

Well I decided I wanted to import some american soda from the internet, so I searched for dealers in my country who can import american soda.

I saw 3 advertiser links and decided I wont charge them for my curiousity

I simply copied their URL string, pasted it in the top URL Address Bar, and clicked go!

The page loaded as normal and the advertiser didn't have to pay me.

Question for you guys, do you do the same or do you actualy think they deserve to be clicked if they are the top results of the page at a price

Regards

If you're actually looking to buy, why feel guilty about just clicking the link? They've calculated the costs into their price anyway.

Now... are you talking about competitors (evil grin)? (j/k)

Most of the time I will copy and paste the advertisers disply url and not click the ad. Why give Google the money when we all know how profitable those clicks are for Google?

IF I am looking to actually BUY, yes I will click on the ads or right click on one ad and open in new window and go down the list if I don't like the one's up top. IF I am researching competitors, I copy the URL and paste into addy bar so as not to make them pay. I figure it's only fair and hope they do the same for us.

If I'm buying, I click the link. If I don't, how will the advertiser know the sem campaign is actually working? Also, depending on the industry, conversion rates can be quite low, so if I'm actually buying something (or even just researching), I'll click the link to make sure that the sale is attributable to their ads.

Whilst yes, Google does make a fortune, I think you need to treat them as you would any other company - they're there to provide a service & make a dollar - Google isn't a public good in that respect.

When doing research consider using the Google Ad preview tool.

[adwords.google.com...]

This allows you to search without having a negative impact on ctr scores. If your browsing as a consumer with intent to purchase then I'm sure the advertisers would welcome your click.

gotta admit, I just click the ad, whether I'm doing research or buying. It's just the easy way to do it. ANother thing to note is that copying and pasting a URL won't always work since the display URL can be different to the actual URL.
