I moved to New Zealand from the UK in 2005. Earlier this year I noticed that, as an incentive to obtain skilled and wealthy migrants, the NZ government is offering 5 years tax free on all earnings obtained outside NZ for new immigrants.

How I wish this had applied when I had arrived. Its a huge opportunity - and NZ is a great place to live. Sticky me if you need more detail on this or follow the link to New Zealand's IRS relevant page if the moderators allow it here:

Don't know a damn thing about the tax structured but I always wanted to ask this question from a Brit abroad.

If you move from Britain to another former Commonwealth nation, do you get automatic entry or do you have to go through a immigration policy like anyone else?...KF

I wonder how this relates to double-taxation treaties. Did NZ previously seek to tax income upon which tax had already been paid overseas?

NZ is not a FORMER commonwealth country :)

you can't just walk through the door, the immigration policy applies to brits too
