Geo-targeting in America

How should I divide my campaigns?

Hi all,

I lack experience in geo-targeting in the US. Please help me out by telling me how should I divide my campaigns between America's states and/or cities (BTW, 10 campaigns would be more than enough for the American market).

Thanks,
Edos

America is pretty much a whole piece of cloth. You don't need 10 different
campaigns (I assume you mean sites). While you might geo. target different areas, south, north, east, west by state or by major cities. All major search
engines have that capabilitie. Contact them for advice and help...KF

I wouldn't suggest dividing your campaigns by city or state unless there's a strategy reason to do so... such as - only offering your product to residents of particular states, having different marketing messaging per market, or knowing that there are dramatically different ROI levels per market.

Unless a substantial reason exists, you're giving up an awful lot of flexibility by not targeting the US as a whole via one set of campaigns.

Hi again,

Thanks for trying to help.

I do mean campaigns (not sites) and I do think there's a good reason why I should have different campaigns (for bid differentiation).

In past international campaigns, we categorized the different target market by GDP and geography (that is, a North America campaign, a West Europe campaign, a Middle East campaign, and so on).

My real question is what would be the best segmenatation for the US market.

Thanks again,
Edos

I would look at the division used by broadcast media....

major metropolitan areas... get longtitude, latitude and do it that way or maybe Google knows the cities well enough for them to outline your area.

Thanks.

Anyone with any other suggestions?
