My 4 Month Campaign went to $10 bids overnight

Well this was sure a shocker but last evening it all started to happen. I noticed a few long running KWs that normally run around .20 each get downgraded to poor. By Midnight ALL of my keywords in this campaign were set to $10 minimum bids. Most Keywords were great prior to last night so I have no idea what happened.

I contacted Google today and a very polite rep via chat said it would be escalated to the engineers and they would get back to me promptly. That was over 16 hours ago and I have heard nothing.

I am at a complete loss as to what happened. At the very least I hope Google informs me of the reason why they decided I should no longer be a part of this niche since I paid them 20k over the summer in it.

Something else that is somewhat disturbing is all of my competitors appear untouched.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this recently?

I got nailed with $10 bids today.. My network was down last weekend so it might be related to the bot not being able to access my pages, but I doubt it since it's been back up for 5 days..

On this topic, I created an adwords campaign yesterday and the bids were set at 20 cents. Today... only 4 out of 36 keywords are active and all the minimum bids now need to be $5.

To continue my rant, my site was doing well in google a couple months ago. Nothing changed on my site except for new, good content, and with one of their algo changes, I lost about 70-80% of my daily traffic from google. I still rank for terms, but not nearly like I did before.

I've learned a couple things. Never quit your job to run your websites if you are a person who worries (like myself) - I didn't do this, but I've seen people talk about this on the adsense forum.

Also... big G sure seems like Big Brother. One chop of the axe and a web business can be completely ruined or built. With all of their stuff like keyword quality, don't sell links, etc... it's become too much cr*p for me to worry about. Very depressing.

Ok I guess it's time for an update on my status with AdWords.

I ended up completely recoding my site, added a contact page, FAQ list, Privacy Policy etc.. I also ripped out the majority of my affiliate links and then pointed everything to a new domain.

After plenty of experimentation I appear to be compliant with the Google algorithm now.

I hope this helps.

I got slammed again within 24 hours of my last post. (Odd Timing to say the least) So much for trying to be helpful. I am now back to square 1.

Anyone else get their campaigns slapped with $5-$10 minimum bids today?

I did ... $5.00 and $10.00. I had been running OK for about the last 12 months. This morning about 1/2 of my kwds went inactive and the list is growing by the hour.

Lovely, looks like we are in the midst of a new algo-rollout.

The last time I got hit was Jul 2006. After that I rebuilt under a new domain and added privacy and contact pages and I was back in until now.

The only things I have changed recently was I added a Google Custom Search box to my home page and associated it with an old AdSense account and removed the form from my contact page in favor of a e-mail address. Didn't change any text to speak of.

Now I also had a PR drop on my home page on 10/29 from PR3 to PR1.

uberslacker - when I got hit in Jul 2006 it was four days after I quit my day job. I will never forget it!

I forgot ... I also selected United States for my "Geograhic Target" on 11/5 and I also had one "Network unreachable" page on 10/30.

I'm not sure if this is related at all but over the last couple days I started playing with the standard ad delivery vs. accelerated in an attempt to slow down my # of impressions served throughout the day.

I also lowered my daily budget 50% as well as play with my daily budget and individual keyword bids on a much higher scale then my previous couple months.

My geo-target is the US only and always has been.

My guess is still a Google Algorithm change but only time & testing will tell.

I woke up to find my minimum bids had jumped from £0.05 to £5.00. My site is clean and has a decent conversion rate of leads, so I know the keywords must be relevant. No explanation from Google, of course.

Between this sort of nonsense and the expanded broad match business, I've pretty much had it with Google. They've gone from being useful to being a nuisance.

So I spent the morning setting up a shiny new Yahoo campaign. I might never have got around to it if Google hadn't done this.

Hi,

Same thing here, this morning when I log into my account the first thing I see.... almost none impressions.. when I took a look a my campaigns all keywords where inactive, yes Google wanted more money from me.
My keywords had all Excellent QS before
ALways kept a high CTR
My Landing Pages are relevant and ads well targetted

I´m tired of all this monopoly from google. No wonder now why all google's share at the Stock Market are going up! Cause it's getting more money from us and is becoming more and more profitable.

Adwords behaves now like a latin america country, where the inflation is not less than 20% annually.

I'm starting my new account at MSN.
