I'm trying to figure out popularity for a few keywords I'm targeting and find the google traffic estimator really confusing... Say I put like $100 as bid for the exact match of the keyword, select all languages, all countries etc. to try to figure out how many clicks a day I can possibly get being #1 and then possibly (partially from my own experience, partially from some other research I have made) extrapolate how many searches this keyword is receiving daily.
Does anyone here do anything like that? If so could anyone share their views on how they predict the total traffic? And also is there any way to combine this data with OV & WT stats?

There are a couple of threads about it in this forum.
The best way is to run a small campaign yourself. Then you can collect the actual number of searches and clicks.

One small addition to sem4u's excellent observation:
If you set your Daily Budget at a level sufficient for your ad to appear 24/7, then you'll literally be capturing the actual number of impressions, for a given time period, for each keyword.
If your budget is lower, however, you will not be capturing all impresssions that occured - because there will have been periods of the day during which your ad was not showing.
And lastly, if one were to do this as a test, I'd also advise setting the Max CPC high enough for the ads to appear on the first page.
