Ive been running a campaign for the last week. I used the Keyword tool from google and took all the applicable keywords and entered them in campaign, even entered some of my own....
Im barely getting any impressions.... At least not as much as i expected.... I have been using phrase match with pretty specific product keywords like "short pink widget"
Are there any next steps you guys can think of to get better keywords or specific phrases that are more generally used or have a higher impression rate, like "product on sale" or something or other? I understand that this can be very industry specific, but any ideas to jump start my creativity would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
A few ideas:
- use more than just phrase match
- expand your keywords with services like WordTracker or KeywordDiscovery
- raise your average position - what sort of average position are you getting right now?
- open up ad serving - all times of the day, different countries, different networks etc.
Im in the adult field (not porn) so, i would assume that there would be volume and defintely tons of competition.... But, the thing is that i am still learnging and trying my hand at PPC, so i was trying to promote a specific product and ive got almost 130 keywords for one product.
In one week ive gotten about 3-400 impressions and 22 clicks and 0 purchases. My average position is around 6.3, every couple of days i pay attention to what KW's are being searched and attempt to up my bid to upgrade my position... But, it is my understanding that even if your on the third page of ads G still considers that an impression, is that right?
Ive had scenarios where G says my average ad position for a specific keyword is 13.2 and still counts as an impression (wouldnt that be on the second page...) Does that mean that the searcher actually went to the second page, or is it simply an impression based on the fact that the KW was searched for?
Maybe im going about this wrong? There are other KW's i could use to promote this specific product, but i was thinking about reserving those KW's for a campaign on the entire category (not a specific product) ie. (KW "luxury cars" to promote a location that sells, Ferrari, BMW, Bently VS Keyword: "luxury cars" to a landing page that only sells a "Mercedes")
From your experience which path would work best?

* No keyword tool that I am aware of will know what you know about your own business and your customers. So be sure to use your unique knowledge of what you offer, and to whom, as you create your keyword list.
* If you have the chance, ask your customers what they search on to find you. Or 'mine' your logs.
* Also consider doing searches on what you consider to be your most important keywords, and then take a close look at, say, the 100 top results for each - and look for possible new keywords. Don't fail to look for negative keywords at the same time. (BTW, you can set our default to see 100 results on Google if you wish).

An impression is only counted if a user actually visits the page on which your ad is shown.

first off thanks AWA! I still have an unanswered question....

karim0028, if I've understood your question, a 'correct' answer will be hard to come by. You'd probably be best off if you simply tested it out and carefully monitored the results to see what works best.
As a general principle I am a strong advocate of being extremely focused, rather than less focused - i.e, I would not strongly recommend using rather general keywords such as 'luxury cars' to sell a specific brand of vehicle. On the other hand, it might work very well if your ad was carefully (and artfully) written, so that those who click on it know exactly what to expect when they arrive at the site.
To put it another way, make sure that someone who is looking for a Chrysler is not clicking on your ad. ;)
In any case, I guess my advice is: "When in doubt, test".
