Contacting Publishers

I have been having some trouble with my AW account. Well, a lot of trouble actually. The Campaigns start and stop at the whim of the latest algo flavor of the month.

The funny thing is that I am doing mostly site targeted so I figured that since I am paying for the impressions the Google algo demon would leave me alone. It turns out that that is not the case.

Folks, let's be clear about this. When you buy site-targeted traffic from Google all you buy is convenience. A one-stop shop for all Publishers. If G. cannot deliver that convenience then they have removed themselves from the equation.

As of today I am contacting the Publishers that I want to do business with directly. There are two main advantages:

1) No Algo demon to worry about.

2) No fee to be paid to Google, my money should go twice as far!

That plan worked well for years. The only question now is how lazy have the publishers become, are they going to be willing to give up the "copy and paste code" convenience of Google?

It isn't a matter of laziness. It's about practicality. An ad network like AdSense can offer geotargeting, contextual targeting on specific pages, etc., which makes the publisher's site more attractive to advertisers while minimizing unsold inventory. To put it another way, aggregation can reduce aggrevation for advertisers and publishers.

You're absolutely right, poor choice of wording on my part. How about “contentment” instead of “laziness”.
