I will start promoting site, which is excluded from Google index (disallow in robots.txt - reason SEO of other site). As it states here: [adwords.google.com...]
that should not have any impact on Quality Score (Google bot is different then Google AdWords bot).
But there is also written:

"To fully understand the quality of your specified page, the system may follow other links on the page."

It seems, that it is for calculating QS on domain level.
Imagine 2 situation, if landing page (i.e. subcategory in shop) has:
1. no follow on all links
2. page in ajax, so mainly most of links are java-script which reload only small part of site.

What do do with such situation? My opinion.
ad 1.
Don't worry, no follow does not concern AdWords.
ad 2.
add link for example in the footer to static pages, like: superior category, and all subcategories.

Do you have any experience in this field?

I do not know if the Google AdWords Bot follows the "no follow" links, but I would guess it does.

If you have a page which is entirely rendered in Javascript, that could cause an issue as there is no content for Google AdWords Bot to check!
