Google charges my credit card pretty much every day and sometimes multiple times per day on my Adwords account. I believe this has something to do with my daily budget, but like I said I haven't really looked into it yet.
From a credit card processing point of view this is lunacy because there is a surcharge for each transaction. Google would save a ton of money by consolidating these charges into one or two per month.
The only advantage I can see out of this is that it allows Google to minimize bad debt.
Anyone else have a better explanation?

On the scale that Google is doing this, that's a pretty big advantage. I think they bill every $500 or so, or over some period of time. If you have a history with them, and the bank and trade references to support it, request to be put on invoicing terms. Makes life much easier (plus you get nicer statements)
To reduce the frequency of charges, request a credit line increase.
Try e-mailing Google to ask if there is anything that can be done about altering your payment arrangements. (It worked for me)
Good advice. ;)

Also good advice. Here's some info from the AdWords Help Center on this subject:
Does Google AdWords offer credit terms and invoicing? (U.S. only)

Does Google AdWords offer monthly invoicing? (all except U.S.)
