Geo Targeting

Double Serving

I have two accounts through My Client Center. If I use account A to direct traffic to Widgets.com, and use Account B, with the same keywords, to drive traffic to example.com/LA, using geotargeting for LA, is there a risk of double serving?

My thinking is that someone types in "widgets" from LA, I could have two ads show up, albeit from different accounts, both driving traffic to the same root domain - example.com and example.com/LA.

Could this be a problem? Am I thinking about this right? How do I avoid this?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

If your accounts are not linked (allowing double-serving to occur) and Google has not approved your accounts to run in tandem, then - yes - you would be violating their double-serving policy in the scenario you described.

If both accounts are sending traffic to the same domain, then only one of the ads will be displayed. That's similar to the situation where just one ad is displayed when two separate affiliates are sending traffic to the same merchant site.

If you're sending traffic to two different domains, Google will definitely have an issue with that. But if the two ads point to the same domain and only one of the ads is shown, then perhaps Google will not complain about it. Try asking them.

Thanks. Does My Client Center automatically link all the accounts attached to My Client Center?

Are Widgets.com and example.com/LA considered the same domain given different pages and slightly different content?

I don't know how the accounts might be linked.

But the answer to your second question is yes, they would be considered the same domain because of the common domain in the URL. There's more info on that here [adwords.google.com].

If you are the actual owner of both AdWords accounts, then you may be in violation of basic AdWords TOS for that reason alone. If one account is yours, and the other belongs to a client, or if both accounts belong to different clients, then no problem. I manage adwords accounts for many clients, some in the same geo area, which is what MCC is intended for.

See if it is two different accounts for e.g.
widgets@gmail.com and example@gmail.com
... than it will show two ads...

But if it is in the same account say widgets@gmail.com
Than it will show just one ad but yes for one campaign of LA or All countries... you will be paying more..

As it will be duplication of keywords which will result in inter competition among your own campaigns.

Not sure what you meant:

But if it is in the same account say widgets@gmail.com
Than it will show just one ad but yes for one campaign of LA or All countries... you will be paying more

Can you clarify?

Thanks
