Adwords ad directing to my page (not by me)

Someone sending traffic to my site via adwords?

Sorry if this has been covered, I dont visit as much as I used to...

Someone has been directing an adwords campaign to my site and I cannot figure out why.
I started to notice a strange referer url in my stats and contacted google.
They told me that someone had a campaign which was directing to my site but could not provide any more info for obvious reasons.

Is anyone familiar with this?
Should I be worried? Could it affect me somehow?

I've heard of this four or five times over the years that I've been with AdWords - especially during those years when I was on the phone. Although I have no details at all about about your business or its staffing, I will say in the past the cause for such oddities has turned out to be along these lines:

* a helpful family member who started an AdWords account to drive traffic to a home business, but without mentioning it to anyone

* a ambitious person within the company (usually in marketing) who started an AdWords account to jump start traffic to the site, but without checking in with 'the boss' about it first

* an account set up by someone within the business as a experiment or test "that was never meant to run", then forgotten.

If there are others in your business, you may want to send out an email to everyone asking if any of the above may have occurred. Also, don't forget to check your credit card(s) to see if there are any charges from AdWords.

I hope you get to the bottom of it - and maybe tell us what you find.

It shouldnt really be any of those things.
Its a small site run soley by myself. It isnt much more than a hobby site really.

- I dont think any of my family even know what adwords is lol.

- There is no company.

- As for my credit cards...
I do not even have an adwords account (only adsense), Google have never had any credit card info from me.

I do host information for 3rd parties so the only thing I can imagine is that someone directed traffic to a particular section of my site featuring information relevent to them, though if they have an adwords account you would think they would also have a website which they would prefer to send traffic to.
Unless their website had problems or is no more.
I shouldnt grumble really, free traffic isnt bad is it.
Just very strange.

In the web log, you should be able to see the keywords that bring visitors from GOOG to your website. Then you could search on GOOG for these keyword and check if there are ads using your URL... if something country specific was setup you also need to check which countries visitors are coming from [using the IP in the log file].

I have been trying to access my logs but it seems I only have logs for this month (not even all of the month). There used to be a huge file containing my logs but it seems that since my host changed the stat software to awstats it only keeps a limited amount of data.
I have checked all the logs available and there is no mention of the adsense url. Ill keep an eye on it and should I locate the link I will let you know my findings. Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully someone else will direct some more traffic next month.
