delete keyword with good performance, then add it again

does it keep its keyword history?

i deleted a keyword by accident today. when i re-added the keyword, its performance stats from before it was deleted only show in the 'totals' row at the bottom of the adgroup.

what I want to know is, even though its old stats arent showing next to the keyword anymore, does adwords still recognise the historical performance for the keyword?

lethal0r,

If you added the keyword back in to the same Ad Group, then the quality score would be the same and the historical data is attributed to that term.

I am surprised that the data isn't showing next to the keyword. If you added it back in exactly the same as the term you deleted, the stats should show up next to it.

thanks for the reply. yeah I put it back in the same group, just checked again and the old data is still not next to the keyword, just added to the group totals at the bottom.

as long as it keeps its history im happy :)

Lethal,

Of course, AWA2 is correct. So double check that keyword. I've done the same thing many times and the stats immediately reappear next to the keyword (when viewing prior history).

Change the stats to an all time view and also check "Include deleted items that were active in this date range" to ensure it's the keyword you thought it was....

JMHO, if you ain't seeing it, it ain't happening.

When I tick 'Include deleted items that were active in this date range' the keyword shows twice, one for the deleted one and one for the active one.

like this:

[keyword]deleted <stats here>
[keyword]active <stats here>

Is this correct? When I untick the box, the old keyword history still only shows next to the 'deleted keywords' line at the bottom of the group.

I don't understand so when one deletes a keyword and adds it back into another ad group then deletes it from there and adds it back to the orginal adgroup it shows twice (when showing deleted keywords) but if you delete it and readd it from the same adgroup it should only show once? Can someone please explain why and what the signifigance is of these differences? Is it better to just lower the max CPC of the keyword in the orginal ad group and try it with a higher max CPC in another?

Google stores a keyword's history on the account level. So if you delete a keyword and then add it to a totally different (or new) group/campaign within the same account, the keyword will keep it's history.

If you have high volume keywords that have a bad history, I would start a new account with those keywords.
