Broad match not working

The service that I offer is business consulting to let's say widget stores. One of the more specific services would be representation for someone purchasing or selling a widget store.

One of the keyword matches I started out with was purchase widget store as a broad match expecting to get listed on searches for not only purchase widget store but widget store purchase (different order), purchase widget stores (plural), or even purchase a widget store (additional text). The only one of the above that works right now besides purchase widget store is widget store purchase (different order). It is not picking up any plurals or additional text. Well, I should say that right now it is picking up plurals because I have now added plural variations to my keyword list thus tripling my total keywords list. I don't want to have to think of every exact combination of text someone would have to enter.

This is happening on a search where there are only 2 or so other advertisers or none at all in some cases so I shouldn't be getting beat out by other advertisers. I have tried to increase my budget and CPC on those items to no avail. The only other solution would be to increase my performance in Google's eyes but therein lies the problem. This search is so specific that I don't think it will ever attain a high CTR. I just want to ensure that if someone does do a search for variations on these keywords that it does show up. I'm even willing to pay a premium to do so but that doesn't even seem to be working.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sam

If the target market is so small, and frequency of searches so few, that only a few matching searches would ever be seen in any day/week/month period, G may never activate the infrequently used keywords for search. I have been experiencing that same issue for some small niche communities I advertise in. In these cases, AdWords may not be an effective advertising medium. On the other hand, if there is very little competition, a well optimized web site / page should be able to get decent organic results.

smsnead1,

The expansion of broad match keyword terms to any specific variation is not a guarantee. The expansion depends on the keywords similarity to the expansions, the quality score of the keyword in question, and the CTR the keyword has shown on those particular expansions when it has been shown in the past, both for your account and advertisers historically.

In general, I always recommend using at least the root keyword and the plural variation in your keyword list, and then expanding from there to individual variations you know you want to show on. Expanded broad match will generally provide you with most of this traffic anyway, but it can be helpful in the future to have that variation specific data.
