I don't think I understand dynamic KW insertion

Do I have stuff set up wrong?

I just can't seem to get the results I'm looking for, here's how it's set up:

This is just an example, sorry no blue hats for anyone ;)

{KeyWord:Buy Blue Hats}
Order Blue hats today
and save up to 50%
www.bluehats.com

Keywords triggering this add:
buy blue hats (Broad matched and negatives would be added)

So now the way i thought this worked was when a user searches for:

"Buy blue hats size large"

My ad would display as:

Buy Blue Hats Size Large
Order Blue hats today
and save up to 50%
www.bluehats.com

Is this right or wrong?

btw, my rep told me today that if the QS of your kw is fairly low, the kw won't be displayed in the ad... I didn't know that. Hope my rep can send me some evidence of it... Cause it isn't mentioned in the learning center.

well thats def a new one, dynamic kw insertion definately shouldnt do that either. the text after the KeyWord: should act only as default text and not appear after or before the keyword, but if they searched for that keyword then it does make sense no?

Quality score wise thats interesting. I guess its to try and kill off the ad ctr which just adds to lowering the quality score cycle.

So is there anyway to set it up so that whatever keyword is typed in, it displays as the title?

Keyword in broad match:

Hats

So now i want to have an add that will display whatever search string is typed in including "Hats"

Buy Hats Online
Buy a hat today
save xx% by ordering!
www.blah.com

Buy XL hats
buy a hat today
save xx% by ordering!
www.blah.com

Buy red hats online
Buy a hat today
save xx% by ordering!
www.blah.com

Blue hats to buy
Buy a hat today
save xx% by ordering!
www.blah.com

{KeyWord:Buy } Hats
bla bla bla

Your confusing me abit now :)

That would mean the title would show:

KEYWORD hats

of course if someone searches for red hats and its in your keyword list, then its gonna go (got to think of what the ad will look like with the keyword in it)

red hats Hats
bla bla bla

Also when the search goes over the title limit then it reverts to the default text such as a search for:

find me really nice red hats

will show

Buy Hats
bla bla bla

With broad match keyword hats in your list. You dont need to add the Hats bit. Just stick with {KeyWord:Buy Hats} and it will display the keyword in the title if its short enough.

To display the following titles:

Buy Hats Online
Buy XL hats
Buy red hats online
Blue hats to buy

You need
{Keyword:Buy Blue Hats}
and your list of keywords needs to include
"Buy Hats Online"
"Buy XL hats"
"Buy red hats online"
"Blue hats to buy"

So someone searches for, for instance, Buy red hats online. The exact match triggers your keyword which then appears as yourad title. Any further words in their search would not appear in your title though.

Ok I will try to rephrase:

Lets say I have one KW in my ad group set to broad match, the keyword is: hats

I want an ad where no matter what search string is typed, as long as it has the word "hats" in it, it takes that string and uses it in the title:

Search phrase by user: "XL Hats Online"
How I want my ad to look:

XL Hats Online
Buy any sized hat
today and save %50
www.hats.com

Search phrase by user: "Blue trucker hats"
How I want my ad to look:

Blue Trucker Hats
Buy any sized hat
today and save %50
www.hats.com

Search phrase by user: "small hats for cheap"
How I want my ad to look:

Small Hats for Cheap
Buy any sized hat
today and save %50
www.hats.com

Search phrase by user: "Discount priced hats"
How I want my ad to look:

Discount Priced Hats
Buy any sized hat
today and save %50
www.hats.com

Ok so pretty much, there is no way to insert the users search unless you have that same phrase listed as a KW in your ad group?

yea as far as I understand it the keyword will be used correctly using the normal {keyWord..} unless the keyword used by the user pushes the title over the character limit in which case it will only take the default text.

Maybe the issue is that when a broad match term hats is put in your keyword list, you get search variations like head wear. Google does match tail searches that dont have 'hats' in it if it thinks it knows the search is definately about hats. In those situations then you wont have a hats keyword to showing in the ad.

This thread is a bit confusing!

Craig V - I'm afraid you're right. When you use dynamic keyword insertion, Google inserts the keywords you bid on that matched the search, NOT what the user typed in the search box. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, there's no way to display the search string in the ad.
