Multiple ads per keyword/phrase?

Hello,

I am new to AdWords and have a couple of questions:

1. Is it worth creating multiple ads (in the same ad group) with the same keyword (or phrase)? That is, all these ads would be targeted at the same keyword/phrase, but the actual ad text would be a little different. I think this could help determine which of those ads is the most successfull in marketing the keyword/phrase.

2. All the keywords defined in an ad group apply to all ads created in that group. I see a limitation here. How do I make sure that a specific ad in the ad group will be triggered by specific keywords? As I see it now, any of the keywords in an ad group can trigger any of the ads in that group.

1. Most definitely. It's very useful for split testing [webmasterworld.com].

2. Any keyword in your ad group can trigger any ad copy within that ad group. If you have ads in a group that you don't want keywords to trigger, then you probably need to tighten up the keyword theme per ad group.

Ewhisper is right. It sounds like you may want to split perhaps one large adgroup into several. By doing this you can make the advert highly targeted to the keywords. This usually results in a much hight CTR. Google advocate testing with three adverts per set of keywords. After a sensible period of time - perhaps 2 - 4 weeks of data, you can normally see a pattern as to which advert is performing the best. At this point you can delete the ones that are not performing so well.

Hope that helps.
