Hey people, I'm a new to adwords. I’m doing pretty high volume (at least I think so). I get anywhere from 40,000 to 80,000 impressions a day avg. on multiple campaigns. My CTR is anywhere from the low 4% up to 8%. Is this good, bad, or avg.? Your responses are much appreciated.

Thanks,

JT

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, James!

CTR depends on so many factors... including the following (and so many more): the vertical, your average position, the strength of competition, how well your ad is written, how close your ad matches the query, the match type of the keyword, seasonality, the day of week/time of day, the particular syndication partners that drive traffic to this keyword, what country you're in, who you're targeting, and more.

So, it's very difficult to get a useful reply to your question... on a broad match for a very competitive keyword, I'd love that CTR. On a keyword that's my brand name, I'd be very disappointed.

PB, Thanks for your reply. I am advertising in a very competitive field. So I guess I should be happy right?

Does this mean you're paying for going on 1600 to 3,200 clicks a day, how are they converting for you?

I can sometimes pay for up to 6,000 clicks on really good days. My conversions are pretty good.

i have campaigns that regularly do 5 to 7% but most of them hover just over 1% and that's on huge volume ... course it all depends on what your advertising and how close a match your ad is for the keyword

hope it helps

SlimKim, what do your consider high volume? Is that 5% CTR including content network? Does anyone know how much impact your content network CTR has on your quality rating?

Your CTR on Content doesn't affect your Quality Score on Search. They are really two different animals.
