Hi,

I have been using adwords now for about a year in the UK but I have just tried using it for US traffic and found it alot different.

I know US have much more traffic but can anyone give me any tips that will help me get a better position? I can get a good position in adwords UK for a fair cpc, but with the US I can not even get on the 5th page.

I maybe using the wrong keywords but just seems alot harder.

Hope you can help.

Elliott

It is harder - more competition, and a lot more fleas to contend with. Hang in there - you will probably get there in the end - just don't expect your position to increase overnight.

Also, remember that america uses different terminology and spellings for a lot of words, so if you have copied your keywords into a new US targeted campaign you may have to adjust them.

Also, if you have just added US to an existing campaign you may be paying too much for some keywords and not enough for others. For me I find it better to separate out the countries. A lot of my keywords are active for less in the US than they are in the UK - if the two countries were together in a campaign I would be forced to bid the higher amount to get the keyword active in both. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs - just in case you didn't know!

This is interesting. I launched separate but similar sets of pages aimed at UK and US visitors within days of each other. The language and some of the terminology is the only real difference.
Similar AdGroups were set up within separate campaigns - most of the keywords and bids were originally the same, alothough they've now started deviated as I've tuned them.

For me, the US has consistently outperformed the UK (even though I'm UK based) in terms or traffic and been much the same on conversion rate. I've just increased all my UK bids in an attempt to catch up.

Same with us. We find the UK much harder and less profitable than the US. Strange really, we seem to be beating the Americans at their own game!
