Strategies for Selling Services, Not Products

Can anyone recommend some tracking ideas when running ads for a service like a wedding photographer service versus selling an actual item like flowers.

How can I help a client measure the effectiveness of online advertising when there is no way to tie clicks to sales?

I would recommend having a short form on the home page. For eg -

Request free information (or quote) -

Name:
Email ID:
Phone No. (optional):
Comments:

It is important to keep the form short. Use the form details to follow up with the customers on email or phone.

Use the Google conversion tracking code to keep a tab on the 'conversions' (form filled).

Could you provide a private area for customers so when they login you can trace them back? Perhaps give a discount for confirming online? Accept terms and conditions online? or use tracking phone numbers?

create an e-voucher of some sort which gives a discount and is tracked ...

a very effectice and low cost way of measuring campaign success.

I like that idea Shak.

You could create different landing pages with a different phone number to track calls. This may prove quite expensive though.
