A query.

Is Google charging less for clicks coming from content search, and is the min bid price (in the UK) 0.04p?

In looking at the totals and costs for the month on one campaign I see that the figures, quite literally, don't add up. Unusually, it's in my favour!

Whereas I'm paying min bid price of 0.04p for clicks from standard search, it appears that the cost for clicks from content search (avge pos 1) is actually cheaper. In one ad it works out at 3.75p per click and in another ad the cost works out at 3.25p per click.

I'm seeing this anomaly at all levels of Adwords management pages. Is it simply a case that the clicks total, content costs total, and campaign costs totals are out of synch with one another, and thus it's a short term glitch that will iron itself out, or is Google actually charging less for content clicks?

Could it be that the level of click fraud is higher on content traffic?

Could it be do to Google's smart pricing which was introduced a month or so ago?

Smart pricing is very smart indeed if it's giving me clicks at below the minimum cpc!

Hopefully, being that smart, it'll start to do the same on all clicks, not just content :-)
